support of your neighbors, your coworkers, your friends and your community.
BOYNTON BEACH, FL, February 14, 2012 - This Thursday, United Way staff and volunteers
plan to visit every Publix Super Market store in Palm Beach County. It’s part of a thank you
event called, Publix Appreciation Day.
Every year, Publix Super Markets and its associates conduct a campaign to raise money for
United Way. This year, for the first time, the contributions from Publix associates and Publix
Charities topped the $2 million mark.
"The level of support we receive from Publix is amazing" said Charles Anderson, United Way
President and CEO. "Their generosity will provide much needed health and human service
programs to those with needs. Every associate should feel extremely proud that Publix Super
Markets will once again be our #1 Workplace Campaign. Their support brings us one step closer
to our $16 million goal for our community."
The United Way representatives will travel to more than 70 Publix stores throughout Palm Beach
County.
“In an age of texting and emails, nothing beats giving someone a smile and a handshake. It’s a
small gesture of thanks but it’s the least we can do for such incredible support,” said Peter Foley,
the 2011-12 Campaign Chair and a director at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management.
During the month of February, United Way is encouraging its board members, community
partners, donors and other supporters to thank Publix Associates while they are shopping at the
store.
