What is the Loaned Executive Program?

The Loaned Executive Program benefits United Way of Palm Beach County while providing employers with an innovative leadership-training opportunity for their most promising employees. Local companies and organizations either “loan” United Way an employee or sponsor a Loaned Executive for three months during which the Loaned Executive works side-by-side with United Way staff and volunteers, assisting United Way in our efforts to increase resources and achieve community impact.

Working with United Way helps the employee to strengthen his or her ability as an organizer and a communicator while increasing the employer’s visibility as a civic-minded employer.  With a rapidly growing need for help and support for the most needy of our county, Loaned Executives play a vital role in assisting United Way to raise the resources needed to achieve community impact.

The Responsibilities of a Loaned Executive

Under the supervision of United Way staff and volunteers, Loaned Executives take the lead in planning, organizing, and completing the workplace campaign accounts assigned to them. To prepare them for the work ahead, Loaned Executives undergo an intense five-day leadership-training and orientation program. As part of the program, they receive valuable instructions on trend analysis, management and presentation as well as an understanding of the needs and services in of the community. The leadership-training, however, does not end with the conclusion of the orientation, but rather is a constant component of the Loaned Executive Program.

Presentations are given at over 100 medium to large size companies throughout Palm Beach County during the three-month period Loaned Executives work with United Way. These presentations provide opportunities for Loaned Executives to enhance their leadership skills while strengthening the employee’s ability as an organizer, a communicator and a leader.

Responsibilities also include:

  • Reviewing and updating assigned corporate account histories, developing strategies for improving employee and corporate investments.
  • Presenting information to prospective investors that illustrate the need for continued support of United Way of Palm Beach County.
  • Partnering with United Way staff and corporate contacts to establish goals, procedures and timelines for the successful completion of each workplace campaign.
