Chairman
Tocqueville Society
The Tocqueville Society is named for French historian and author Alexis de Tocqueville, who visited the United States in the 1820s and wrote the book “Democracy in America.” In it he wrote that he observed “a people who confronted their problems and addressed them.” Nearly two centuries later, visionary leaders in our community are using United Way to do the same thing.

Tocqueville Society members are a special group of influential individuals who partner with United Way of Palm Beach County to make a real and lasting impact in our community. Through their compassion and philanthropy, these individuals demonstrate exceptional generosity and leadership, and provide impetus for real change in Palm Beach County.

United Way of Palm Beach County established the Tocqueville Society in 1990 to recognize donors giving $10,000 or more, for their philanthropic leadership. Tocqueville Society members understand that one of the greatest joys of being a community leader is seeing the impact of their actions.

Never lose sight of the close connection between the private fortune of each and the prosperity of all.

- Alexis de Tocqueville.
