The VITA Program is an invaluable service United Way of Palm Beach County has been providing to the community for the last thirteen years. It targets individuals and families with low-to-moderate incomes who are eligible for tax credits. The program has prepared more than 116,000 tax returns yielding over $184 million in refunds and providing and estimated $274 million economic impact for Palm Beach County.
Last year alone, we recruited, trained and deployed 160 volunteers. Volunteer participation resulted in 8,300 hours and an in-kind value in excess of $170,000. This makes your one hour of volunteer time worth over $2,000. Talk about real value!
Volunteers are the key to the VITA Program's success. As we enter the program's fourteenth year of service, United Way needs your help recruiting 200 volunteers. A commitment of four hours per week is required during tax season from 21 VITA site locations throughout Palm Beach County offering a flexible schedule including weekdays, evenings and weekends. Volunteering for the VITA Program is an extremely rewarding opportunity! No experience is required and there are opportunities that don’t involve preparing taxes.
All VITA volunteers will receive a background check upon completion of training and certification.
